Which financial options should I take advantage of at my new full-time job?
I’m 21 and just got my first full-time, salaried job at a national credit card company. Up to this point I have only worked part-time or seasonally in retail jobs where I did not have financial benefits like stock purchase options or retirement accounts or that sort of thing, so I have no idea what I need to take advantage of. Can anyone offer tips or point me to resources online that will help someone who is just starting their career? Thanks!
Setting up a 529 plan… should I buy direct or go through a financial adviser?
I live in NY… I am deciding between opening up a 529 directly (likely choosing an age-based plan – daughter is 1), or going through a financial adviser. Any tips/experiences?
Biggest Mistakes You Should Avoid While Dealing With Debt Collectors
Biggest Mistakes You Should Avoid While Dealing With Debt Collectors (1) Not using your right to check that the debt is yours. Somebody contacts you about a debt, and says that you owe him. Why would you trust him? How do you know that he did not mix up names? You can validate the debt in writing within 30 days of being notified. The collector has to hold off on contacting you until it sends you a written clarification of the debt in question. Do not be coerced into paying a debt you don’t owe, because if you do – it is an admission of guilt, and it will have a very negative impact on your credit score. While sending a request for validation to a collector – you should ask them to provide the details. (3) Giving a debt collector your banking or credit card information. If you tell a collector to take $50 per month out of your account – don’t be surprised when he takes all the money from your account. And you will have very hard time to revert this, because the collector is going to say you gave your permission. (4) Signing an agreement or legal document without understanding your rights and obligations. Don’t do it, even if you are threatened. If you do not have money to consult an attorney, ask your friend. Do not act while you are in fear. You always have at least one day to think things through. (5) Not …
Should I ?
A guy wanted to have me get an updated pic of myself for my profile. He said to call a studio and he would call them and prepay them with his credit card, because we live in two different states. Is he just being nice or what ? He did NOT ask me for any personal information. He did say he would Western Union me the cash tho, I think somethings up, and he’s NOT from NIGERIA, so leave all that stuff out, I know about the NIGERIA scams…he did say he was from Panama, living in Florida…..what do you think he’s up to ? Im already ignoring him and have him blocked, but what do you think he was trying to pull, I would NEVER give my personal info on the net…..
When budgeting my pay check, how much should I put away into vacation and long term savings?
I’m looking for a percent that I should put away from each check. My expenses are limited… $183 toward car payment /month, $40 for the gym /month, $60 for the phone bill /month. I appreciate any sincere answers…I just graduated college, this is my first job with a steady pay check and I want to be smart about my money! Thank you!

Budgeting- How much should I expect to pay for water, electric, and gas…?
Per month, for a metro-city, 1200 square foot condo with just me living in it? I know it varies, but just a guesstimation/average would really help me out!
Thanks in advance!
It would probably help to add that it has 1 gas fireplace, which would only be used sparingly.
